A. Moskalenko, the President of the GCE group
“We are keenly studying the technical aspects of the problem, diagnosing everything. In spite of increased awareness and responsibility, they [the Americans – edited text], forget that the cause of most of the accidents is human being!”- Comments Alexander Moskalenko, the President of the GCE group on the oil spill in Montana.
The experts from the GCE group note that the oil spills off the coast of North America are frequent. In the past year there was the accident in the Gulf of Mexico, in May this year - the leak on the oil pipeline in Alberta province, which was the biggest of leakages in 18 years, now ExxonMobil contaminated the Mississippi river near the world famous Yellowstone National Park. The ecosystem, despite the assurances from the oil industry that there is no threat, suffered irreparable damage. And by breathing the vapours of petroleum products, the hundreds of thousands of tourists, who come to rest in the protected zone, will not become healthier.
Alexander Moskalenko, the President of the GCE Group points out that in Russia the control system for hazardous facilities is very different from that of in the United States and Europe. We have done a great deal under compulsions, and for them it is on voluntary basis or on the basis of social responsibility. Is their way good?
Recall that today for the consideration of the State Duma the Russian government has put forward the bill that extends the responsibilities of companies to prevent oil spills and enhances their liability in case of emergency.
